I. Jacqueline Kennedy
Introduction:  Jacqueline Kennedy was the wife of former president John F. Kennedy. She was a skilled writer, and fashion influencer. She revitalized the culture of the white house and became an icon to American woman. In this activity you will learn about Jacqueline and become a skilled writer.

  1. Watch the video biography about Jacqueline Kennedy.

  2. Now that you know more about her it's your opportunity to show us what you know.

  3. Become a skilled writer just like Jacqueline.

  4. Create a one of a kind writing. It can be in blog, or an article. 

  5. Write about something that interests you or that you are passionate about.

  6. Your finished draft has to be between 500-1000 words.

  7. Remember you are a skilled writer, so you must proof read your one of a kind peace and submit your finished product. If you are not sure what a blog, or an article looks like, please research the web for ideas.

II. Nancy Reagan

Introduction:  Nancy Reagan was the wife of former president Ronald Reagan. As first lady she was on the front lines in the fight against drugs, and she helped start a campaign called Just Say No. In this activity you will learn about Nancy and campaign just like she did.

  1. Watch the video about Nancy.

  2. Read over the Nancy Bio attachment to get to know her a little bit better.

  3. Create your own campaign just like Nancy.

  4. Think about what you would like to campaign about (Ex: it can be something that you would like to change in the world, something you would like to see more of). You decide. 

  5. Watch the video about Political Campaigns to have an idea of how to create a campaign

  6. Once you are done, write out your campaign plan. Make sure to explain everything about your campaign and answer the following questions. What is the campaign message? What are the means you will use to convey the message? What is the reason behind this message? What is your story? What is the value? How will it help society? etc.

  7. Finally, create a poster/sign that clearly represents your campaign.

III. Pat Nixon
Introduction:  Pat Nixon was the wife of former 37th U.S president Richard Nixon. Pat came from humble beginnings, and she worked very hard from an early age to find a better life for her and her siblings.

  1. Watch the video about Pat Nixon.

  2. Create a poster board comparing and contrasting the different things in her life from early childhood to adulthood in comparison to your life.

  3. Show how her life and yours are different and/or similar. 

  4. You can add pictures , cut-outs, etc.( You can also use your own books, print out material, or search the web to help you learn some more about Pat).

  5. Your poster board must have a combination of pictures and written information comparing and contrasting. All written information should be typed, and cut and pasted in your poster board.

  6. Submit your completed poster board.

IV. Laura Bush

Introduction: Laura Bush is the wife of 43rd U.S. President George W. Bush. She served as first lady from 2001 to 2009. During her time as first lady, Mrs Bush was a strong advocate for education. Being that she was an educator herself, she created a national initiative called "Ready to Read, Ready to Learn", which promoted reading at an early age.

  2. You can also read over the bio to learn about her a little bit more.

  3. Have a discussion with your teacher about the importance of early reading and then report your discussion back to us.

  4. Write an article about the discussion you had. Make sure to answer the questions below in addition to any other questions that arises during your discussion.

  5. Why do you think Mrs Bush thought it was important for children to begin reading at an early age? How can reading at an early age benefit a child? At what age do you believe a child should start reading? What is the best way to know what a child should be reading? How do you keep children interested in reading?

  6. Your writing should be in actual article format. Do not list the answers to these questions. If you send us a list we will not give you credit for the work.

  7. Write out your article explaining your findings in your discussion and how you agree or disagree with the topic and with your teachers responses. You do not have to write your article responding the questions in the order they were listed. Make sure that your article flows and is cohesive.

V. Michelle Obama
Introduction: Michelle Obama is the wife of former president Barack Obama. She is a strong advocate for kids health and started the Let's Move Campaign.

  1. Watch the first video to learn more about Michelle Obama.

  2. Watch the second video about the Let's Move campaign that Former First lady Michelle Obama started.

  3. Now its your turn to get up and get moving. 

  4. Create a dance routine of your own or an exercise routine of your own.Be super creative. You can wear funny clothing, exercise clothing, or regular clothing. You can use props. You can add music to the background(music must be appropriate, and can not contain any derogatory remarks, comments, or negative language).

  5. Record your original dance or exercise routine, but first in your introduction to the recording you must explain the importance of the Let's Move campaign that Michelle Obama created. What is the purpose of this campaign? How is it helping kids and families? What changes have you and your family made to have better health. Once you answer these questions then you can record your dance or exercise.

  6. Submit your recording for credit.
